About
Sanja Dragutinović Komatina, MA is an artist and conservator–restorer living and working between Budapest and Belgrade. Her practice is grounded in the tradition of Eastern Christian icon painting and shaped by more than two decades of professional experience in conservation and restoration. She graduated in painting and restoration from the University of Arts in Belgrade, and continued her specialization in wall painting conservation at ICCROM in Rome and in Byzantine icon studies in Ormylia, Greece. For 25 years she taught conservation and restoration at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, while working on notable international projects, including the conservation of Byzantine icons from the Treasury of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul and wall paintings in Serbia, Italy, and Greece. Her artistic work is closely connected to this deep knowledge of historical techniques and materials. She works in traditional egg tempera and gold (and silver) leaf on wooden panels, following established iconographic principles and respecting the discipline of the canon. In recent years, alongside canonical icon painting, her practice has gradually opened toward a more personal artistic expression, while remaining rooted in craftsmanship, material integrity, and the contemplative character of sacred art.Her works have been shown in many group exhibitions in Serbia, Hungary, and Canada, including the solo exhibition Invisible and Visible in Budapest (2023)./////////////////////////////////////For inquiries about available works, pricing, or commissions, please feel free to get in touch.[email protected]
